Bio
Terrance Barkan CAE has been a senior international association expert since 1991, when early in his career, he served as the Executive Director for international trade and professional societies based in Europe. Later, Mr. Barkan created and grew one of the most successful international association management firms, AGS – Association Global Services, the first firm to serve associations world-wide from 11 offices on 5 continents.
Mr. Barkan has been recognized as a Global Thought Leader on association management, and is the author of numerous articles, white papers, blogs and webinars on how to develop social media strategies. He works with organizations by helping to develop professional social media business strategies. He provides training and education through live workshops, webinars and bespoke consulting engagements.
Mr. Barkan has recognized that social media is hugely disruptive to traditional organizational and business models. Part of that disruption includes the many different legal risks and issues related to the use of social media by staff, management, customers and other stakeholders that potentially put an organization at risk.
Identifying the need to collect and share information on the emerging field of social media related law, Mr. Barkan created SOCIALEX as a community for legal professionals to meet, network and share experiences. The goal is to help legal professionals to correctly identify and manage legal risks affiliated with social media use, for the benefit of their clients.
